Flowers
are an integral part of most gardens – they add color and cheer
as well as produce sweet scents and attract birds that will make your
garden a relaxing place to be. Your choice of garden flowers will determine
the mood of your garden area.
The first thing to look at if you’re planning to add garden flowers
is location. Where will your garden benefit from flowers? When you look
at your garden, is your eye naturally drawn to certain locations (or
do you want it to be) – flowers are best in places where they
will be looked at, which means highly trafficked areas or places that
can be seen from places you are likely to be.
When you’ve got a location, it’s time to choose what kind
of flowers you want. Most flowers don’t bloom year round so you’ll
want to arrange your garden flowers so that at least some are always
blooming – most places that sell flowers will also tell you when
each type blooms.
Lastly you’ll want to think about what sort of flowers you want.
Annuals bloom fast but they must be replanted each year while perennials
will die in the winter and grow back in the spring. Many perennials
in particular are low maintenance and still look great.
