A garden hose may also be referred to as a "hosepipe" in some areas. They are often green, but may come in many other colors. A gardener has the option of utilizing many different attachments with a hose. For instance, some attachments are designed create particular spray capabilities while others provide a method of creating a standalone transportable sprinkler with the hose.
Different materials may be used to create a garden hose. Most typically, they are either created with synthetic rubber or soft plastic. An web of fibers within the hose works to reinforce the main material used.
A garden hose will have threads at each end. In the United States, these have a standard size known as GHT for "garden hose thread." This allows multiple hoses to be linked together. A rubber seal may be used to effectively force water out of a perforated hose in a sprinkler fashion.
