Gardening
is tough on hands – most gardeners prefer to use gloves, especially
when working with soil so as to avoid blistering and just to keep from
getting dirty. While it’s certainly possible to simply cast your
gloves into the toolbox after each use and purchase new ones when they
inevitably wear out it can be worth your while to take care of your
gloves – they’ll be more comfortable and last longer.
It’s important to pick the right kind of gloves for the job –
make sure they are the right size and consider their material. Leather
gloves are great for pruning thorny bushes but you may want latex ‘grip’
style gloves for pulling weeds out of the mud.
Consider washing off your gloves after use – just leave them on
and wash your hands as you normally would. Leaving the dirt caked on
will reduce the lifetime of your gloves and make them unpleasant to
wear after some time. Additionally, don’t store them outdoors
or in a box with the rest of the tools.
