If
you’ve decided to have a garden you may have noticed that it can
get expensive, just for the plants, let alone all the other gardening
supplies you’ll need – if you’ve never had a garden
before then you’ll need shovels, rakes, pruners, spades, weeders
and more. These can be purchased used for reasonable prices but even
if you have these basic tools you may find yourself in need of a tiller
or other heavy equipment.
Some things are merely a convenience – specialized tools are not
always necessary. Your basic shovel can be used for tilling if necessary
but it is slow and difficult. However this may not be necessary as you
can often get great deals on gardening supplies at the end of the season
–retailers will be eager to sell their excess inventory after
the growing season is over.
Other gardening supplies can be made or found at home – any container
can make a planter with some holes for drainage and plastic bottles
make great seed cups as barriers to insects – just cut out a tube
from the middle of the bottle and place it around a plant to keep insects
and small animals away. Likewise,
