Garden Pond

Garden PondIf you are looking for a way to add unique character to your yard, a garden pond might be the perfect solution. They can stimulate several senses and can transform your yard into a tranquil getaway.

The first thing that a pond can do for a landscape is change the scenery. They are a break from the greenery of plants, and can create a striking contrast. With a pond, the related plants will simply be an accessory, helping create a more peaceful environment.

In addition to the change in scenery, the sound from a garden pond is one of the biggest benefits. The sound of rippling water adds a soothing element that can be enjoyed in groups or simply alone. To add to the sound, consider adding a fountain or perhaps some fish. If you are looking to add fish, koi work particularly well.

Once you have decided to add a pond to your yard, you will need to figure out what type of pond to add. There are many options to choose from. You can have a natural pond, which follows the curves of nature. Alternatively, you could create a more ornate, formal pond from bricks or stone, such as a canal pond or even a split level. The type of pond you choose should depend on factors such as your budget as well as how you want the pond to look. For example, a natural pond can give the impression that it has been around for a very long time. On the other hand, a formal canal pond or split level can have a more striking visual impact.

Every garden pond has some level of maintenance required. Pumps and filters will need to be checked, and you will need to keep an eye out for any excess debris like leaves and twigs.

An exciting element of owning a pond is picking out the plants and/or fish that you want to accent your pond. For plants, be sure to check to see what type of environment each plant thrives in. Certain types of lilies, for instance, can thrive in a natural pond setting. For fish, one of the main considerations is the color of the fish. Bright fish can be a joy to watch and can provide a stark color contrast. However, bright fish are also easy for predators to spot. If you happen to live in an area where this may be a concern, consider buying fish that might blend in with the surrounding scenery.

These considerations tell part of the story why people are so passionate about their ponds. People with a passion for gardening see ponds as an extension of their garden. People who might not have a green thumb see a pond as a way to give their yard character and definition. A garden pond can be a great way to soothe the senses and to create an outdoor living area that everyone can enjoy.
