Pond plants

Pond plants are
not all the same. Many people can only think of water lilies when
posed the questions, “What kind of pond plants are there?”
There are, of course, many more pond plants than just water lilies
– although, water lilies are very beautiful pond plants, and
pond owners should definitely consider including them.
There are two main categories of pond plants: deep water plants
and marginal plants. Water lilies and even the lotus plant are deep
water pond plants. Marginal pond plants grow in shallower areas
of ponds. Cattails are one example of marginal pond plants.
A third category of pond plants to consider is bog plants. These
are plants that require constant moisture, but they grow along the
un-submerged edges of the pond. An important function of pond plants
is not just their beauty. Pond plants also offer cover for fish
and they even help control algae.
