Here are a few necessities:
Pond filters are one of the essential pond supplies. Over time, harmful bacteria can grow in your pond. Pond filters play a very important role in maintaining the proper balance and eco-system in your pond. Additionally, filters can break down toxic gasses such as ammonia and nitrite into beneficial substances to give your pond plants the nutrients they need. Filters are either external, which sit outside your pond, or submersible, which are placed inside the pond.
Pond pumps are another example of essential pond supplies. Pumps play the key role of circulating the water in your pond. This circulation is what produces the relaxing sound of gurgling water. Like filters, pumps can either be external or submersible. Another important factor is how much water the pump can move. As a very general rule, you want the water to be turned at least once every hour. So a 150 gallon pond will need a 150 gallon per hour pump.
Pond liners are the last of the key pond supplies. While there are some concrete ponds and preformed ponds, the majority of ponds are built with flexible liners. Unlike concrete and other preformed ponds, flexible liners allow for total freedom in designing the look of your pond. They are typically made from a synthetic rubber and last much longer than they did in years past. If a repair is ever required, patch kits are readily available.
