Vegetable Garden.
The site location of a vegetable garden is of utmost importance. Direct and full sunlight for at least six hours a day is necessary for vegetables to mature properly. Soil quality and drainage are also imperative when selecting the location. Windy areas should be avoided to ensure plants do not dry out or break. Another important step in planning your vegetable garden is to determine which types of vegetables and the quantity of each you wish to grow. Next, decide whether to start your own plants from seeds indoors or in a green house, or purchase vegetable transplants which have already been started for you. Both have benefits depending on what your personal needs and goals are. Drawing a diagram of your prospective vegetable garden is helpful in the planning process. Map out each row according to height, plant requirements and other criteria. The direction of the rows isn't necessarily critical, but it is a good idea to have them arranged so the tallest crops don’t shade the shorter crops. Preparing and testing the soil is imperative before planting any crops. Fertile, well drained, moisture retentive soil with plenty of added organic matter is essential for a successful garden. Once your soil is prepared, you may begin planting your vegetable garden.
